Tuna Still Available
Report Date: May 25, 2016
It's already been a month since my last report and the reason for not doing it is not because the fishing wasn't good - actually, the opposite - the fishing has been so good we've been really busy fishing. In my last report, I mentioned that the month of May was a very good month for the blackfin tuna and indeed it was very good!! We fished a tournament and we ended-up winning the biggest tuna at 36.9 lbs. We also did numerous trips in the afternoon and the bite was better, but not only for tuna, but also for kingfish and some sailfish action as well. You still have a very good chance of catching tuna. Two days ago we caught 2 nice ones in the middle of the day.
Reef fishing has been pretty steady for us out of Fort Lauderdale. On some days we had to go a little more north to find some cleaner and better water to fish. We're lucky to have the boat and the power necessary to travel further and quicker - and lately it's paid off for us. We've been catching big kingfish, some nice amberjack, mutton snapper and tuna.
At one point mahi fishing was really good, but now it's slowed down a bit lately. We've had a few trip requests for mahi-mahi, but I warned my customers that we had better chance on the reef but they insisted going offshore and look for mahi. One of my good customers wanted his daughter to catch her first mahi and I was really happy we did and he was really happy as well. There's nothing better than go out fishing with customers and make them happy!!
Now we're getting closer to the summer months and a lot of people will be here on vacation and we will try very hard, like we always do, to make people happy and catch them some very nice fish!!
Until next time, good luck and tight lines!
