Mahi off Port Everglades Inlet

Fishing out of Port Everglades Inlet remains good for mahi. In our trips before the Fort Lauderdale boat show, we were fishing between 700' and 1000' of water. Half-day trips were averaging between 10 to 20 fish per trip. On one trip, before the wind started to blow, we caught 12 good size fish all between 8 to 12 lbs.
On Sunday, the wind picked-up and nobody has wanted to go out since. Thursday and Friday were our first days out. With the wind from the northeast at 20 miles per hour, or more, I decided to fish on the reef and put out 2 goggle eyes on the kite and some deep and flat lined pilchard and in 200' by the steeple. A school of mahi showed-up and hit the 2 kite baits and 3 flat lines and everybody on the boat got very excited.
On Friday, with no current on the reef, I decided to go out deeper. I found some nice weeds and blue water in 750', but as soon I stop the boat Alan and Lucie (very nice and repeat customers) started to feel seasick, so at their request, I turned around and came back to the reef with not much time left. We fished in 60' of water and found some mahi, big blue runner, big bonito, and a barracuda. After all they went through; they were happy and caught fish!!
