Lots of Skipjack, Few Mahi

Report Date: November 23, 2013

With no wind and a flat calm sea, fishing has been slow the last couple of days on the reef. On Monday, we started on the reef this time down south by Hallandale and caught a few mahi right away, but could not buy a bite after that. With time running out, I decided to troll north with small feathers, and just before we got in front of Port Everglades in 500', we caught 6 small tuna and 6 good size skipjacks. So the last 30 minutes was pretty exciting!

On Tuesday morning, we fished with Danielle and Roger Roy of Vallée-Jonction, Quebec, Canada. Again with a flat sea and no wind, I decided to start in 500' right in front of Port Everglades. Quickly, we found some good skipjack tuna action. In the first couple hours, Danielle and Roger caught about 15 to 20 good size skipjack - most of them were caught on small spinning and jig combos. For their first time blue water fishing, they were pretty excited!
