Hot Springtime Fishing
Report Date: May 16, 2018
Springtime is here and fishing has improved a lot lately in the Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood area. The Fishing here in Fort Lauderdale in May is one of my favorite months. The weather has been nice on most days so far but we also had some choppy days. There's also lots of seaweed in the water lately which makes it harder for us to deploy our live baits on the kite or flat line. Live bating is the tactic we use most often on our charters.
Most of The fish we targeted lately have been top water fish. We’ve caught some very nice mahi-mahi right in front of Fort Lauderdale in 700’of water. We also caught a few nice fish between 200’and 300’ feet also right in front of Port Everglades Inlet. We also have seen and caught a lots of sailfish lately. Our last couple of half-day trips produced 2 to 3 sailfish, kingfish, bonito and tuna.
Like I mentioned, May is one of my favorite month because it’s the best time of the year to catch the bigger tuna, in the 30 lb. range. They’re also very good to eat - especially if you like sushi.
Spring and summer are also a very good time to go across to the Bahamas. We’ve done a few trips already and caught some very good eating fish. We target these fish in deep water using electric reels. These deep water species include: yellow eye snapper - we also call them silky, big grouper, and some very big queen snapper.
Overall, the fishing has been really good and I expect the next couple of weeks to be really good. So give us a call if you want to catch fish and have a good time!!
Until next time, good luck and tight lines!
