Ft. Lauderdale Offshore Fishing Improving
Report Date: April 23, 2013
By South Florida standards, fishing been a bit slow the previous few months, but we managed our share of Spanish mackerel , cero mackerel, king mackerel, some mahi and the occasional tuna.
In March, fishing improved dramatically. We've been catching quality fish on a regular basis - sailfish, mahi and kingfish. The last week of March also saw good run of bluefish right outside Port Everglades inlet, from 40' to 500'. Some trips saw 50 releases of fish in the 8 to 12 lb. range - on an afternoon trip!
So far in April, we're still catching sailfish, kings, mahi, tuna and bonito. Most of the action has come on live baits (pilchards and goggle eyes ), kite fishing in 100' to 250' between Haulover and Hillsboro inlets.
Looking forward the next few months, we start the first week of May in Key West and the Dry Tortugas. We'll be there with Blair Wiggins of Addictive Fishing. The next few weeks is also when the big blackfin tuna show-up, ranging from 20 lbs. to nearly 40 lbs. And don't forget yellowfin tuna in the Bahamas for the next 3 months! This is an awesome time to go fishing, so come out and join us.
