Fishing Offshore of Port Everglades

Report Date: October 15, 2013

Ft. Lauderdale fishing for mahi-mahi has been pretty good and the baits are thick inside Port Everglades Inlet. You'll also find plenty of pilchards, mullet and some blue runners mixed in just off the beach south of the inlet.

We did a trip last Sunday with a livewell full of pilchards. We to 900' near the steeple and caught a dozen mahi and some skipjack tuna. Next, we came back nearshore to the reef just north of Port Everglades. Fishing in 200', we caught a bunch of blackfin tuna, and a few rainbow runners, an african pompano and some vermillion snapper.

This past Friday we went out in the afternoon, again with a live well full of pilchards, and found the skipjack tuna between 300' and 400' of water right outside Port Everglades. This Saturday we had a mix of mullet and pilchard and again in 900' near the steeple we found a floating debris and caught about 50 mahi and a nice 26 lb. cow. Sunday, we stayed in close and fished north of the inlet between 100' and 300' and caught 4 skipjack tuna, 3 nice rainbow runners and a 20 lb. amberjack.

With the month of November approaching and long anticipated cold fronts making their appearance, fishing will only get better!
