Bottom Fishing Providing Lots of Action

Report Date: January 13, 2018

Fishing in Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood area the last month has been a little tougher than usual. But with hard work and perseverance, we've managed some good catches bottom fishing and wreck fishing. We caught some big amberjack, some very nice almaco jack, and some very good eating fish as well.

A few weeks before the end of the year, we ventured offshore and caught some very nice mahi-mahi, but lately, they have been scarce and few have been caught. Leading up to the first week of the New Year, the weather was very nice with warmer than usual temperatures. But with no north current or south current, the top-water fishing has been a little slow. So, we had to change tactics and started doing a little bit more bottom fishing and it has paid off.

Since the first week of the year and that cold front that came through, the kingfish bite has improved and we’re catching them on a fairly regular basis. We’ve also seen more sailfish which is always a good sign. With another cold front coming our way next week, and if we can get north current, it could spark some really good fishing here in Fort Lauderdale next week.

Until next time, good luck and tight lines!
