Beautiful Weather and Sailfish

Report Date: March 7, 2015

Fishing in Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood for the first few days of March has been decent for us. The weather has been very nice around 75to 80 degrees every day, and our customers love it!

In our last report, we mentioned that we fished deeper water and we were catching mahi. Well, it changed a little. We ventured out one trip to around 800' and could not find any mahi, so before coming back to the reef line, I decided to make a few deep drops for blackbelly rosefish. In no time, we caught 28 rosies. We then hurried up to try some reef fishing and put out some live baits in 130', by the Diplomat Hotel, and caught a few kingfish.

On Monday, we fished the afternoon with some repeat customers. We had beautiful weather and a flat calm ocean, but with no current, fishing was tough. But like I say, if we don't go and try and spend time on the water we won't know what the conditions are going to be or what we're going to catch. Any day, regardless of conditions, can be "The Day." That is exactly what happened to 14 year-old Rafael. Monday afternoon he got rewarded with is first sailfish.

Tuesday morning we fished with Michel, Pierre and Mike - more repeat customers. I decided to go north of Port Everglades and started in 200' with no current, but beautiful blue water. I put out the kite with 2 live goggle eyes and another one down deep. The water color was beautiful. One of the kite baits was behaving quite erratic and there were lots of flying fish all around. I figured there should be fish in the area. Yeah! We caught 3 nice sailfish, took some pictures and released them all for someone else to catch another day. We also caught a few mahi and 2 silky sharks up to 40 lbs.

We usually have beautiful weather in March. So come and spend some time on the water with us. You'll never know what you're going to catch!

Good Luck & Tight Lines,

Capt. Mario Cote
